THE PARETZ FOUNDATION

The Paretz Foundation was initiated by Helga Breuninger,Volker Donath, Markus Hipp and Matthias Marr. It was established as a Trust Foundation of the Breuninger Foundation in 2009 by the architect Volker Donath. In the preamble to the constitution of the Foundation, Volker Donath describes the task set for the Foundation as follows:

"Just as the historical area of the village of Paretz was initiated by  King Friedrich Wilhelm III of Prussia and Queen Luise with an eye to the future 200 years ago and architecturally integrated and transformed by David Gilly, so the Paretz Foundation is to offer a platform for the exemplary future development of the village.  Matters concerning the preservation of historical monuments, durable building methods, conservation, education and social awareness are all to be bound together in an active cultural life, which will be possible through a new conception of education and work.“

More and more subjects like jobs, education, culture, health, town planning, conservation and the preservation of historical monuments will become cross-related, where participant structures will be needed for efficient working. Foundations are important protagonists within our democracy and are able to promote a new model in society which, by communicative and participant decision-making, can supplement and integrate the undeviating decision-making procedures of political structures.  Local  groups of responsible citizens, businesses and politics can break down the pillars of society into separate departments and justify a lasting culture of solutions.“

The Paretz Foundation’s purpose is in the long-term to make a contribution so that more and more people in the parish of Ketzin, and especially in Paretz, understand their role as active creators of their own world and can design and be responsible for competent solutions for the future of their historical village.”
