WASAN ISLAND - CANADA

Wasan Island is a special place. The island privately owned by the Breuninger Foundation is situated in the heart of the Muskoka Lakes, Ontario, Canada. The secluded atmosphere on the island offers a unique culture of encounter.

Within the Wasan Academy, conferences, symposia, and retreats take place in cooperation with international partners during summer. It’ s the aim of the Academy to offer a safe space for committed people and groups which allows them to go beyond their conditioned ways of thinking and work together in a dialogue on a more comprehensive perspective. On the island it is easier to discuss opposing opinions, to bear them and to come closer to them or perhaps even resolve them.

AUROVILLE - INDIA

Contact with Auroville is tradition with the Breuninger Foundation. Heinz Breuninger was already interested in Sri Aurobindo’s philosophy  Auroville, the universal township was founded according to the  vision of Sri Aurobindo. Today its urban development has reached a stage in which new structures of a self-organizing community evolve according to their size and complexity. Visitors, researchers, and people who decided to live in this experimental township in the south of India experience a frankness in which anything new can develop. The Breuninger Foundation supports projects which lead to a sustainable improvement of  living conditions of the local population and above all promotes ideas, concepts, and meetings which further the development of Auroville as a self-organizing community.
